16 November 2008 from 1340-1355
Location: The Arboretum of the University of Puget Sound
Weather: 53 ̊ F, slightly hazy, partly cloudy skies, no wind
General: The Arboretum is very similar to the Quad, but with a greater diversity of trees, including coniferous and deciduous trees. All of the deciduous trees have changed colors, and many have lost most or all of their leaves. Leaves scatter the ground, and in many places have been raked up into large piles. It seems that the process of fall is farther along here than at Willamette. I wonder if the north-south difference between the two would actually cause a distinct difference in phenology between the two regions. There was a group of perhaps 5 crows cawing in a tree a little ways off. At one point, one took off, and all of the other crows in the tree followed. I wonder if they were frightened off for some reason, or if they all just choose to stick together. I can hear the twitters of what seem to be small birds, but other than that, wildlife is pretty scarce at this time. There is moss growing on many of the trees, and several of them have a white residue on them, but I do not know what it is or what it is from.
(Sorry it's posted after sunset. I had it typed up before sunset but I didn't have Internet all day because I was traveling)
