This California Prionus was discovered by Mike Bennett who was woken by this enormous long-horned beetle as it flew around a light in his home .... at about 2 AM! He and his wife dispatched the beast with a broom and got into a box for the sake of science. By morning it was dead, but the Willamette Naturalist 2.0 class inspected it and were able to identify it to species using their Audubon Field Guide to the Pacific Northwest.
