Tyler Starr: 9/21, Mill Stream N. of Goudy

Tyler Starr

21 September 2008 from 1652-1709

Location: Along the Mill Stream on the northern bank, just north of Goudy

Weather: 59 ̊ F, partly cloudy, 5 mph breezes, everything is still wet from rain

General: It’s still wet outside from the rain. There are puddles on the sidewalk and the lawns are muddy. Everything seems so much cleaner after the rain. The air smells so pure. Seven ducks are enjoying the cooler weather. Last week at this time, they would all be hiding in the shade right now. There are 4 males and 3 females. Two males are sleeping. I like the way they sleep, with their heads turned around, resting on their backs underneath their wings. Two males and a female are sticking their heads underwater, feeding. The other 2 are standing on rocks, cleaning themselves. Of course, I saw a squirrel foraging near where I was sitting. There is also a crow to the northwest of where I’m sitting, cawing, and several that are flying around Doney and Lausanne. There are also two small bugs that are walking across the surface of the stream by the banks where it’s calmer. All of the ducks are awake now. Most of them are feeding now. Several were feeding on the leaves of a branch in the water right in front of me, so I got to be very close to them.
