Walking from the Bistro to Matthews dormitory on Willamette University campus, Salem, OR, USA
47 degrees, clear
Walking home from the Bistro late on a Tuesday night, I am dazed by the overload of homework I have been captivated by for the last few hours. Wanting nothing more than to get into bed and listen to some soothing music, I pick up the pace and think longingly of my warm bed. While walking I become sidetracked, just like myself many slugs have also found it I their time to head home for the night. From where I was standing, (the pathway between the library and the music building) I could see more slugs than people! Do slugs wait until the quieter hours of the night to carefully make their way home, without the worry of trampling shoes or Goudy salt? Or are they out during the day, and I have just never taken the time to notice? It seems that when the students go to sleep, that is the time when all the wildlife roams at Willamette University. The raccoons, the nutria and now I have observed the slugs, all find peace in the nighttime, without the hustle and bustle of college students running carelessly to class.
