Oct 25, observation 2

Phil Colburn
25 October 2008
Location: The Charlie Brown Regatta
Time: 1430-1450 hours
Weather: Sunny and clear

After all of my races are completed for the day, I am completely exhausted and since we still have other boats on the water, I head down to the beach again to do another observation. This time, I will focus more on the beach itself and less on what is happening across the water. The sand on the beach is extremely silty and treacherous, sometimes it will suck down a foot and make a rower lose his balance as he attempts to carry his boat back to his team’s area. The beach is full of low to the ground bushes that have long green fronds. They look like fern fronds, but they do not have any feathering at all, they are just one solid long frond. They look almost like dune grass, but I am not sure if that grows here in Oregon.
